Hey Unfurlers,
When we can’t seem to reach our desired weight, when we’re battling chronic illness, when we notice annoying and uncomfortable rashes appearing out of nowhere — we think that something is happening to US.
But in truth, we’re happening to our bodies. Our body isn’t working against us, we’re working against IT.
Our body communicates to us through feelings and symptoms. Symptoms begin to show themselves when we’ve gone too long without listening to our body.
When we’re not following our intuitive guidance, pushing too hard when it needs rest, eating foods that increase and aggravate our natural elemental makeup, and masking our symptoms with medication before getting to the root — we are working against our body.
Our body will always tell us what we need.
For example, a RASH means there is inflammation somewhere in the body. Inflammation means too much heat. If you reach for the chili peppers instead of the cool cucumber, you’re working against your body!
It’s that simple but it’s also not simple because we’ve:
Become too comfortable with convenience,
Been distracted and deceived by quick fixes,
Been programmed to believe that we’re a victim of our /fate/genetics, and
Live in a fast-paced world that makes it difficult for us to tune in and listen.
Love Your Body… and Trust it!
Our body will send us nudges through symptoms, but even before symptoms develop, we can start listening.
It’s a matter of becoming aware and listening to what our natural elemental makeup is. Do you notice if certain foods cause discomfort? What are the qualities of those foods? Hot, dry, heavy, sweet?
Too much sweetness can cause stagnation and lethargy.
Too much spiciness can cause inflammation and loose bowels.
Too much dry foods can cause dry skin and dry cough.
And then if our environment has an excess of those qualities, we increase our chances of developing ‘symptoms.’
And when we go too long without listening, we get sick.
These concepts above are only scratching the surface. Ayurveda takes us deep into the tissues and the systems of the body to understand where dis-ease begins to manifest. You’ll be surprised to know that it usually begins in the mind!
Kundalini Yoga Developed my Body Awareness
Before kundalini yoga entered my life, I was extremely disconnected from my body and that disconnection trickled into every area of my life including my mindset, relationships, and career.
I had no idea these concepts could have such an impact on my overall well-being and how I was showing up in the world. I committed to practicing the Yoga of Awareness because of how it made me feel. Light, expansive, grounded, connected to all that is.
At first, the shifts were subtle, but as I practiced this awareness of my body and mind patterns, my consciousness began to change — impacting how I made daily choices so that they were more in alignment with my goals and desires.
This is why I believe that the key to any lasting change we want to create in our life is to get back in our bodies. To strengthen our relationship with our body and understand better how it’s communicating with us.
Our bodies are powerful and we have all the technology needed within us to transform from the inside out.
And this is why I think Kundalini Yoga is lifechanging when learning from a professional who can guide you properly, deeper into your unlimited personal potential.
Stay tuned as I dive in deeper in the coming weeks!
Thank you so much for sharing! This was a very helpful article. I haven't been listening to my body lately or maybe I've been listening to it too much 🧐 I notice my body craves sugar but then after I eat it, I have a tendency to crash. I think remembering the food that makes my body feel good is important, not just what it wants in the moment.
Delighted to read your words about kundalini yoga! I have recently returned to the practice and love it.
