NOTICE THE SIGNS
We’re here to feel.
Our senses are designed to provide information. Our entire sensory system is a data highway. Everything we are experiencing, and all the information we need is filtered through our senses.
Even though I know it, I practice it, I talk about it… I get caught up in the daily grind and I’m so busy helping others, I forget to see the signs in myself.
I had all the signs. And I wasn’t listening deeply enough to my body.
About 2 weeks ago, I started to notice a pain in my tailbone. Yes, a pain in my butt. I took it a little easier on myself but continued pushing on.
For context that will bring this reflection together, I write for this publication, my personal business, and for copywriting clients. I spend a lot of time writing and sitting at my desk.
Last night, the pain was so unbearable, that my husband drove me to the hospital. It was getting to a point where I wouldn't be able to care for my family if I didn’t take care of this pain in my ass.
First, they checked my blood pressure which was skyrocketing at 146. I thought OMG how can this be? I practice meditation, I breathe, I do yoga, I make healthy choices… how did this happen?
After some IV to get the pain down and an MRI, an orthopedic traumatologist surgeon walked into my room to give me the report.
JUST HIS TITLE SOUNDED TERRIFYING. At that moment, everything went quiet. I could hear my heartbeat. I felt like my life was about to change forever. Would I need back surgery? How will this change my life?
“Hi Stephanie, you have a back injury.”
What?
“Luckily, it will heal on its own. It was caused from posture or repetitive tasks.”
At that moment, I heard the message loud and clear.
You see, I’ve been battling for a long while with myself and I have been running myself pretty aggressively. I knew it, but I ignored it. On top of everything I do, I still manage to drive the kids to school, drive my oldest son to work, pick up the kids from school, take them to their sports every night of the week, and make dinner. It’s a LOT.
I was burning out a long time ago.
I have been wanting to ramp things up with my coaching and public speaking but I keep taking copywriting clients because it’s what’s paying me the most.
But writing for other people is not where my heart is at right now. I’ve had a desire in my heart for a while now to be more front-facing, more inspirational, more motivational and to help and heal many more people.
I can’t do that behind a keyboard, not by dividing my time up the way I was. I wasn’t playing full out (I wrote about this last week), and the message from the doctor yesterday was the most solid confirmation from the Universe that it’s time to play full out.
The Universe Gave Me a Literal Kick in the Ass!
And I know it could have been much worse. I am choosing to listen now. It’s so hard jumping feet first into the unknown. This morning, I wrote an email to all of my copywriting clients to advise them I would be cutting back the workload.
It’s time to work on me and my vision.
“Life has a funny way of helping you out when you think everything’s gone wrong and everything blows up in your face…” — one of my favorite quotes from Alanis Morisette’s song Ironic.
I am heeding the warning.
I am trusting and allowing myself to receive so that I don’t need another kick in the ass to get me on track!
A Question for you to Ponder Today:
Where do I feel accelerated growth in my personal life and how can I best support this growth?

UNMASKING TRUTH - by
Nothing will make you realize how much society masks than going through hard times and being open about it. Expressing the angst and sadness during troubled times is not welcome in this world. Others may not say it aloud in words, but in a world of self-soothing and a quest to only “feel good,” most will want you to put a mask on to make them feel more comfortable above all else. - quoted from post.

I love how she puts things in perspective for us here. Why we behave the way we do, why we attract the relationships we tend to attract.
