4 Things I See Doing More Harm Than Good in Spiritual Communities
Please stop making spirituality weird AF!
As soon as I tell people I meditate and lead divine feminine circles and start talking about frequency and vibration, people scatter.
As if I’m some strange being from another planet…
Why do they prefer small talk and mundane conversation? I just can’t do that all the time.
Small talk is boring.
Sometimes, yes, we all have to play human and talk about things like the weather, our paychecks, our trip to the grocery store, and the windows in our homes that need cleaning…
but I want depth most of the time.
That doesn’t make me weird, that makes me deep.
So then, I go looking for my tribe and I find all kinds of spiritual communities out there talking about love, light, crystals, roses, rainbows, fairies, and unicorns.
In other communities, it’s reptilians, greys, impeding false flag events, fake alien takeovers, secret government experiments that happen underground, flat earth, and hollow moons.
The awakening has taken the world by storm — and with that, a TON of information to take in. From one extreme to the next, and it can feel super overwhelming, especially for people just jumping on the spiritual train ride… But I noticed one trend that’s concerning:
No one is focusing on the Universe within them.
And new agers - you scared people away with all the fluff!
The New Age Community Needs to Do Better
Why do we humans complicate everything?
Humans are obsessed with knowing things. And while this is a good thing, it can also bog us down with a lot of extra stuff we just don’t need.
After all, aren't we all seeking enlightenment?
Doesn’t the very word enlightenment sound lighter? The word itself has the word light in it.
I feel like there are a lot of misconceptions in the realm of spirituality that people attribute to woo-woo and I feel like a lot of the noise in the New Age community has created a lot of this confusion, to be honest.
My work involves helping people ground their divinity into their humanity.
But it’s really hard to do that work when everyone thinks that being spiritual means you spend most of your time in some other realm, talking to aliens and reading the future.
When we’re doing that woo-woo stuff, we’re obtaining knowledge and wisdom. But the spiritual part of it is what you do HERE ON EARTH with that knowledge and that wisdom.
Otherwise, we are missing the point. And I am going to talk today about how that is actually doing more harm than good.
What is it about ‘spirituality’ that has people either so afraid or so intrigued?
So afraid, they run from the truth their entire lives, or so intrigued, that they end up spiraling down a million rabbit holes and completely lose touch with themselves — also taking them so far from the truth.
Here are 3 Problems I See in Spiritual Communities That Are Doing More Harm than Good
1. They Think They Need to Leave the Body
No. Never. Please don’t leave your body because if you do, you’ll die. You are meant to experience spirit IN the body. This is the point of being spiritual. But I see everyone out there trying to escape the body, run around in different realms of existence, and FORGET to bring themselves back here to earth.
Cool, if you want to do a transcendental meditation, go for it. But remember to bring your consciousness back here and ground it. Spend more time in your body than out of it. People like to experience the light and airy feeling of transcendental meditations, but forget that it’s not sustainable to run around in daily life all flighty and anxious, which is what will happen if you don’t set the intention to come back to your body.
You don’t have to leave your body to become enlightened. In fact, the point is to experience enlightenment in the body. This whole idea that we need to escape has seriously messed with people and now everyone’s running around letting all kinds of weird stuff into their auras. Keep it in the body. Keep it contained.
2. Everyone and Their Grandma Offers Free Personal Readings
Tarot readings and oracle cards are a fantastic way to gain insight and inspiration from someone you can trust. But they shouldn’t be used as a ‘crutch’, or seen as the only way you can heal. Remember, you have all the power within you. I see people out there flailing around jumping at every offering they can find on the internet for a ‘Free Reading"‘. Ahhh! Most professionals are only offering readings at a price and that’s because they value your journey and honor their energy. When you expect things for free, you get what you expect. Have higher expecations and value your time and the person who is taking their time and energy to do your reading.
Choose a practitioner you feel good about, don’t just go with whatever you can find for free. Remember: Intention is gold, and it truly is your currency.
Some trusted practitioners in this space who are authentic and professional that you can check out are:
and . They are phenomenal authors and authentic leaders in the spiritual space.3 They’re Told the Only Way to Heal is Through Shadow Work
A ploy I see many ‘spiritual gurus’ and leaders use to market their work. They say: “You have to face the darkness to find the light” " forgetting that everyone has their own path and their own timing.
Cool. Yes, you do have to become aware of your darkness in order to change it. This is true, correct.
But NOT EVERYONE is ready for the light and not everyone is ready to go through the darkness.
Yet, everyone is promising they can heal you if you do this shadow work — and so, the most vulnerable latch on to this idea of being ‘healed’ because the most vulnerable feel desperate. And inauthentic leaders are seething off of this vulnerability.
This is detrimental to mental health.
High levels of awareness and light can be riveting. Not everyone is spiritually mature enough to handle it. In fact, not everyone is meant to. We’ve got to stop claiming we can heal and help everyone. We have to stop thinking we can save everyone. This is not sovereignty, this is ego. It is not honoring another soul’s sovereignty, either.
Digging deep into the shadow when you are not well mentally can be dangerous. And honestly, I am tired of seeing people who are not trained in mental health claim that shadow work is the answer.
I’ve witnessed first-hand what can happen.
I will write about that in a future story…
4. They Think They Need All the Crystals, Sage, and Palo Santo
You might think you’ve graduated and earned your way into some ‘advanced spiritual community’ when you have a ton of crystals sitting on your altar. Or you might begin comparing yourself to others who have all the crystals and seem to have their shit together.
I can promise you — they don’t have all their shit together.
And if they do, the crystal is likely not what got them where they are. I promise you that too.
Sure, crystals hold energetic properties and if used correctly can have healing benefits. But, these are tools. They can assist.
They assist you until you make the realization that you, your inner light, your heart, and your intention are all you need.
You’re getting too attached and you’re stressing out too much about if you're doing the spiritual thing right…
You have all the power within you. And there is no right or wrong way.
It’s simply your way. Because it’s your journey.
Being spiritual doesn’t have to look fancy schmancy. Belief is all it takes. I don’t care what anyone else says — quote me on it, if you like.
If you don’t have all the crystals, incense, and oracle cards — rest assured. You are just as spiritual as the ones that do. You are just as capable of tapping into your personal power as the next divine human you stand beside.
Plus, you’ll save money. You, a candle, and a journal will do. Quote me on that one too.
In Conclusion
You being human is a gift. It’s a divine thing.
The fact that you’re here is a miracle.
We spend so much time and waste so much energy and even money trying to figure it out, that we forget the whole point is to come back to ourselves.
Keep coming back to you.
The whole world is a lot. That’s a lot to take in. How can we ever focus on what we need to do if we’re so focused on how others are ‘spiritualing’?
When we are focused on how others are ‘spiritualing’, then we are essentially ‘humaning’ too hard. Because humans like to make things complicated and weird.
Spiritual your way. You are unique. You have your own divine blueprint that no one else has. That’s what you’re here to figure out. Don’t stress about what you see out there, what you should be doing, and if you’re doing it right.
When you focus on steady growth, and always resourcing guidance from your heart, you’ll realize you never needed to go anywhere else, except within.
That you were never broken, and never needed fixing.
You just needed… you.
You just needed... you. LOVE LOVE LOVE. So well said. Thank you for this beautiful reminder. 💕💕
I love your post. I would love to learn more about spirituality. Please, keep writing more like this.
