Sunday Reflection: Shame is Not Real
Shame is not real, it's a construct made up by the ego. Plus your weekly empowerment prompt!
Happy Sunday! In today’s free post, I share a journal prompt designed to help us establish new beliefs that serve our highest good and break us out of patterns that do not serve us.
Today’s Journal Prompt
Do I have a pattern of self-sabotage that could be related to shame?
Today’s Reflection
Shame is Not a Real Human Emotion - It’s a Construct Developed By the Ego to Keep Us Punishing Ourselves
The ego wants to keep us safe. That’s its job.
We’ve got to love our ego. There’s a lot of talk in the realm of New Age spirituality that claims you must “eradicate the ego” but I don’t think that could be farther from the truth.
Why do we keep running from our ego when all it wants is to feel safe?
We must integrate the ego. Love it. Help it feel safe.
We use shame, which is not even a real emotion, to remain attached to beliefs we’ve decided we need to attach to in order to feel safe.
Shame is developed by the ego as a self-punishing tool.
When something that didn’t feel good happened, we decided to give it to the ‘internal punisher’ as shame, so that we could remember never to feel those things again.
The problem is, that the ego is smart and wants to keep us from ever experiencing that again. So it attaches shame to other aspects and occurrences in our life and then we fall into patterns of self-sabotage.
Do you see how the ego just wants to be seen, understood, acknowledged, and loved?
The ego just wants our loving attention. It doesn’t want us to keep running from it and treating it like an enemy.
Yes, we must look at the parts within us that we don’t want to acknowledge are there. That’s how we keep the ego from screaming for our attention. The ego is a part of you and all of the feelings and the emotions that you feel are filtered through your ego.
Love your ego to eradicate shame.
PS: I have dealt with a lot of shame in my life as part of my healing and recovery from Postpartum Depression. People think that you just “recover” from PPD but you don’t. Because then there’s the aftermath. The shame and the guilt that’s left behind. I will speak a lot more on this subject in the coming months.
Do you have something you want to share?
