Keeping stress to a minimum and keeping our bodies strong are essential markers for overall health and wellness. But as a busy mom and business owner, I can’t spend all day, every day tending to self-care rituals and exercise (although I would love to). And sometimes I do set aside days for just that!

What I find helps in modern life is having a consistent ritual that supports our specific body’s needs and making intuitive choices that support our current environment and mental/emotional states.

I use my emotional and mental state as a major compass to navigate my daily needs, which can fluctuate daily.

Listen and tune in. If you feel anxious and flighty, what qualities should you invite in that will add some weight to ground you? Warm stews, root vegetables?

If you feel hot and tempered, what qualities should you invite to cool your jets and calm and soothe the inflammation that might be presenting? Aloe vera juice, cucumbers? Maybe avoiding hot yoga or cardio that day?

Ayurveda is all about supporting the body IN THE MOMENT. There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution in Ayurveda. As the earth moves through cycles and rhythms so do our bodies. That’s why strenuous exercise one day might be perfect to lift you up out of a heavy, depressed or lethargic state, but next week it just might be too much.

Really tuning in to the qualities you are expressing is key. Inflammation signals heat, dryness and cracking joints signals too much air, lethargy signals too much earth.

However, there are some practices that almost universally suit any environment, body constitution and doshic imbalance that are perfect as a dinacharya.

Dinacharya means - daily self-care.

These practices below are rituals that I include in my routine either daily, several days a week, or as needed and I will explain below.

Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of holistic healing, offers timeless practices that nourish the mind, body, and soul. Here’s how you can incorporate these powerful techniques into your wellness routine for a more balanced and vibrant life.

Nasya: A Breath of Fresh Air
Nasya is the Ayurvedic practice of applying herbal oil to the nasal passages, helping to clear congestion, lubricate nasal tissues, and improve mental clarity. Since the nose is a direct passage to the brain, Ayurveda believes it is essential to keep this channel clean, free of debris and healthy.

This simple ritual not only supports respiratory health but also enhances focus and uplifts your mood—perfect for daily rejuvenation.

Nasya can be used 3-4 times a week, either in the morning or at night before bed.

If I am treating brain fog and anxiety, I will use Nasya oil for 3 days in a row, at night before bed. You simply lay on your back, place 5-7 drops in the nose, snort really hard and then let it sit and penetrate the nasal cavity for a minute or two. Seriously, this feels divine and instantly calms and relaxes.
