I remember the first time I practiced kundalini yoga. It seemed strange and looked weird to me. It was different from the other styles of yoga I practiced and I remember thinking “Oh my god, I can’t let anyone see me doing this weird stuff.”
But I was hooked right away. And then I noticed the changes in my body. I loved how it made me feel lit up and energized. It became a daily practice.
And it changed me literally from the inside out. I started to feel better and look better, and excess weight began to shed even though I didn’t feel like I was working up too much a sweat!
I removed layers and layers of stuck energy in my body that was weighing me down.
So I decided to learn how to teach it.
Then I became a teacher and now I get to be the first one to do weird shit while others do it with me. It’s great!
The Yoga of Awareness
Kundalini Yoga is called the yoga of awareness because it brings a series of techniques using breath, movement, and sound to focus on a specific outcome. It is prescriptive yoga, using prescriptive movements, breath patterns, and mantras to bring awareness to, activate, and shift the energy in selective parts of the body and mind.
The science behind it is fascinating, and the more I learned about it, the more I tuned in to how absolutely remarkable our bodies are.
How we have all the tools within us, with conscious awareness and intention, to change our state of mind, our health, and our energy field.
What fascinated me the most about kundalini yoga?
When I discovered that I could train my body to break through ANY barrier or obstacle.
In kundalini yoga or meditation, you are practicing what is called a kriya. A kriya is a movement or a series of movements in sets that typically last from 2 minutes up to sometimes 31 minutes.
These movements can become challenging when completing them over a certain amount of time.
And this is where the pain-threshold barrier kicks in.
This is where you get to discover and WITNESS your personal power.
The body is incredibly powerful and the mind is what typically puts limits on the body. Even in Ayurveda, it is said that all dis-ease first begins in the mind and then manifests in the body.
This is why I love Kundalini yoga. We work a lot with the mind — training the mind to overcome the pain threshold barrier.
Mind over matter…
Discovering your power…
Bringing awareness to your limited beliefs…
Bringing awareness to your weaknesses and challenging them…
and cultivating your strengths.
If this sounds exciting, I would love to invite you to experience it for yourself with a gentle practice that I will be hosting on Tuesday, September 17th at 12 PM EST.
Unite your lower and upper chakras with an invigorating practice that balances the heart chakra, opening you to love and abundance. Great for beginners, this one-hour class will slightly challenge you while leaving you totally refreshed, energized, and receptive!
We will allow 5 minutes after class for a short journaling exercise and 5-10 minutes for discussion. Map out an hour and a half of your time to gift this time for yourself!
You won’t be challenged too much in this class, but you will feel a little challenged. It’s gentle enough that you can experience the shift in your energy and feel lighter, brighter, and more radiant.
I hope you’ll come!
Hello Stephanie. I used to love my yoga. My arthritis has gotten so bad I had to give it up. I need two knee replacements and I'm not looking forward to that at 75. The recovery and rehab time alone will take forever. That's my only gripe in getting older. I miss my yoga --I always felt so good, peaceful ...
Thank you!
